Just a nice small vintage charger --
« on: December 09, 2014, 05:16:21 PM »
I found this little 1960's vintage Silver Beauty charger in a Sun cabinet that I'm restoring. It's beat up and the cord is cracking, but that's no reason to toss it. I save old power cords from broken, discarded, or surplussed equipment -- and this is a little project where they come in handy.

This little guy has a 2A fast charge and a few hundred mA trickle charge -- in its day this kind of technology was pretty novel

Rotted power cord all the way into the metal housing; some folks would just toss it.

Nice quality US made transformer and electronics --

Unsolder the connections and cut a new powercord to size

30 minutes of work and this one is saved for posterity --

Save those old powercords folks; they do come in handy.

Good save. Do you have a plan in mind for that little unit?

I'll install it as a trickle charger on my lawn tractor -- that should keep the battery in good shape for months at a time.

It's been years since I saw one of them. It'll do a great job of keeping that mower battery up.
