I need to rent a mongoose
« on: October 08, 2011, 12:08:30 AM »
Today the wife asked me to pull down the attic stairs and go up in the attack and get her fall stuff. Things like extra blankets stored in containers and holiday stuff etc. I go up there and grab a bag or 2 and start handing them down to her.....Then  I looked down beside me and I saw it. I was sitting on a large snake skin. I guess it came from a 5 or 6 foot black snake. I quickly cut the light off and danced down the stairs and closed the stairs door..........WTF?  My wife almost has a phobia about snakes and there is a rather good chance that he is still up there hiding under something. Any ideas would really help but first I will say Im not moving away regardless of what the wife says and number 2, I ant callin no friggin exterminator and pay the price of a new depth finder or more to have someone come and catch it....I got to do something for sure and I cant stand snakes either but I dont want the wife to think Im a sissy and afraid to go up there and do something. We have 3 large house cats but they have been seen playing with mice and not killing  them so they will be of no help. I tried to make a joke and told the wife we needed to rent a mongoose and he would take care of the snake. she said really? It sounded like an idea to her...I then told her that yes it would work but we would end up then having a really bigger problem trying to get the mongoose out.. a much bigger problem. What do I do? help

My wife would have a stroke. I have no idea how exterminators deal with this problem, there must be some way to trap it. I'd look around to see if you can plug where it got in.

It is either following mice and squirrels or just molting. If molting it is probably gone till next time. (they like quite places) If food they will still go in and out. Look around in attic and if he isn't there, find out how it got in and cover it. They are good climbers, if you have trees next to the house look high also.

Yeah, I agree with Heiny, the snake is probably after mice. Probably a black snake and would run if it saw you. They are cheaper than buying sticky boards for catching mice. I found a snake skin in that lake property mobile home a few years back. That was after sleeping over one night and hearing the mice running all over the place. I am glad the snake(s) is there actually. Gotta get the place ready for sale. Land prices are too high to ignore.

Don't pay any attention to me though, I have ZERO "reputation."  :lol3:
