"Quick and Dirty" media blasting tent in about an hour ---
« on: August 23, 2011, 06:54:42 PM »
Now that I have my HF 110lb. pressure blaster working, I needed a portable tent to blast my larger pieces so that I could work without making a big mess and be able to reclaim most of my media.

Here is my solution -- it's portable and can be totally disassembled, and best of all it worked very well.

I bought a blowup "kiddie pool" at Target for $5 and used it as my catch basin. Then I went to Home Depot and bought five 10ft. sections of 1-1/4" PVC pipe, along with 10 "T" fittings and 4 elbows. I also purchased some thick 15x15ft heavy landscaping plastic  -- total cost was less that $35

I built a 6ft. frame out of the PVC pipe and incorporated a tray section 30" up

The plastic was wrapped around the frame and held in place with with spring clamps

Kiddie pool catches all the media. I simply lift the blast tent out of the pool, fold the pool in half and pour the media into a 5gal. bucket.

I worked all afternoon with 50lbs. of Back Diamond 60 grit media from TSC. It's cheap, cuts well, and the grit size works perfectly with this pressure blaster.

The tent and frame can be disassembled in a few minutes -- this works for larger pieces such as doors, fenders, wheels, etc...

Thanks guys, it's nothing fancy, but it traps the media and keeps everything contained. The proof will come when I do those huge fenders, and doors. Doors will be tomorrow's project.

I can be improved if given just a bit more thought, but I was in a hurry this morning and that's all the old brain could conjure up on short notice.

Great idea are you able to reuse the media? FM I'd be waking up dead were I to do something like that.
