While at my local garage this week, temptation got the best of me and I stepped onto a MATCO truck that just happened to make a service call for one of the mechanics. I don't really need any new hand tools, but just for the heck of it I went for a look. First off, I just can't get over the prices anymore. Sure I haven't been on a truck in over a decade, but --WOW!!! the prices are definitely very high.
I looked around a bit and found something I really wanted -- two magnetic tool and spray can trays. For pure organizational value and versatility these things rock. I was ready to buy until I saw the price tag -- $65 for the small one and $78 for the larger spray can tray. A quick inspection showed that these things are PRC sourced and not even MATCO branded -- so they are generic PRC sourced items. I declined to buy.
Glad I didn't buy!!! I checked HF and found almost the exact trays (just a few cosmetic differences) at Harbor Freight for less than $10 each. I know that the MATCO vendor needs to make a living, but that markup is rediculous. These HF versions are nice. and all three of them were less than $26. Large magnets and good sturdy 20ga steel AND the krinkle finish matches my HF toolbox -- PERFECT!!!
A great deal -- and a "thumbs up" for this HF product. I'll be getting a few more of these ---
