Real inflation?
« on: May 27, 2011, 06:34:53 AM »
The CPI is the government's calculation of inflation (they exclude energy and food prices when coming up with their inflation figure). . . it is on the very right side of this chart as 1.1 percent. The rest of this chart is ACTUAL year over year inflation of food and energy. How high would the CPI be if the government included food and energy?

Aren't statistics wonderful? You can make them say almost whatever you want.

As one prof was fond of saying. First you decide what result you want then you plug in numbers to match.
